We have upgraded our quantum cloud platform, IQM Resonance, with a new 54-qubit quantum computer processor, IQM Emerald. With nearly tripling the number of qubits compared to its predecessor, IQM Garnet, with its Crystal 20 QPU, this launch shows significant growth without compromising the reliability that users have come to expect from IQM.
A 20-qubit system allows running and testing real quantum algorithms, helping you gain evidence that your the algorithm works in principle. With 54 qubits, you can test the scaling of the algorithm in reality.
You can see how the algorithm behaves as the problem size scales to the classical brute-force limit, and what modifications you need to make to the method to have a chance of it working in real life. Working on a 54-qubit system also tests the real effect of error mitigation and starts to show the realistic overhead of error mitigation procedures. This helps identify the real bottlenecks in the computational workflow and invent solutions in the right places.
IQM Emerald is built for serious experimentation and taking your theory and putting it out in the real world. Its technical benchmark includes:
Algorithmiq reached a 100x boost in precision for molecular simulations critical to designing effective photodynamic cancer therapies compared to previous benchmarks. This breakthrough, powered by IQM Emerald, shows how quantum computing can outperform classical methods, paving the way for faster, more targeted, and cost-effective cancer treatments.
Quanscient has achieved the first 3D advection-diffusion simulation on a superconducting quantum processor using the Crystal 54 system. Leveraging the chip’s high connectivity, fidelity, and optimized architecture, Quanscient ran a complex Quantum Lattice Boltzmann Method simulation modeling particle diffusion in 27 directions.
Thanks to IQM Emerald, the team reduced circuit depth by 71%, runtime by 62%, and improved coherence compared to other superconducting quantum devices. This is an encouraging step toward practical quantum simulations in fields like fluid dynamics and engineering.
IQM Emerald is the cornerstone of a broader evolution of the IQM Resonance platform. In it, you will find a comprehensive IQM Academy, a place to learn about quantum, advanced error handling for your quantum circuits, a new QAOA library for perfecting your algorithms, and more.
To make sure everyone can benefit from the platform, regardless of their quantum journey stage, we’re introducing a free access plan designed to bring quantum to all. It includes:
